I haven't been making any progress in this area for a while. I did learn recently that I could click on the "S" at the top to turn off any solo'd tracks — very exciting! One goal I'm going to set based on this post — to try and leave the Smart Tool on most of the time. It's really clunky to go back and forth when I'm editing
Great to hear it was helpful, Jeff! Yeah, that solo release trick is useful. One extra thing about soloing - I used to leave it on the setting where clicking solo was cumulative, i.e. clicking a second solo button would leave the previous solo on too (‘Latch’ solo mode), but I changed to X-OR solo mode several years back, which I find much cleaner - when you solo something, then click a different solo, the previous solo goes away. What it means is you can quickly toggle a solo button to get rid of any other stray solos that are on. If you need to solo more than one thing, just Shift-click extra solos. Takes some getting used to, but I find the default ‘Latch’ soloing pretty annoying now if I’m using someone else’s session and they’ve got it on - so much clicking to turn solos off!
