Great topic and post! These days I mostly ask a producer friend for feedback on mixes - more technical stuff. I find myself a little skittish these days about just asking random friends for their thoughts on an unfinished song - it feels like something I want to protect in that stage if I’m really going to try and be authentic / unselfconscious
Totally agree - it's pretty normal to be excited about what you're making and want to show people, but after you get some weird and unhelpful 'feedback' once or twice from people who don't know much about the process you become a bit more protective!
